Process

The design process began with detailed measurements of the van's interior, followed by spatial planning and 3D modelling in SketchUp. V-Ray renders were used to visualise the proposed layout, explore material choices and assess how the different components would work together within the limited space.

Particular attention was given to ergonomics, accessibility and multifunctional furniture. A bespoke pull-out bed was designed around specific sleeping requirements, while fitted cabinetry, a wardrobe and additional storage were planned to maximise the available space. A multipurpose countertop was also incorporated to provide a practical surface for food preparation and working.

The interior was developed through a combination of digital design and hands-on construction, with adjustments made throughout the build to accommodate the existing vehicle structure and evolving requirements. Working collaboratively with my family, we refined the layout and integrated practical features, including a sink and under-counter fridge, to create a comfortable and functional living space.
